Unfortunately, we have been observing a process for a long time, which aims to tarnish the image of Georgia by the European Union and make specific statements based on non-existent, invented perceptions - it would be better for both them and the EU-Georgia relations if they reconsider these positions, - Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, told journalists, responding to the statement of the Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union to the UN, Michele Cervone d'Urso.

According to Samkharadze, when a person - regardless of whether he is a representative of the European Union, China, the United States or Australia - claims that black is white, this is unacceptable.

"Unfortunately, we have been observing the process for a long time, which aims to tarnish the image of Georgia and make specific statements based on non-existent, invented perceptions on the part of the European Union. We have stated it many times and we are stating it now: if anyone has any legal remarks regarding the law that was mentioned in this gentleman's speech, we are ready to sit down and legally discuss with them each norm that is spelled out in this law. The Prime Minister made this offer back in the summer of 2024, but two years have passed since then and this initiative has not received any response. This was not a one-time offer, after that we expressed our readiness several times to sit down and discuss the law.

The second issue, which concerns the protests - everyone knows very well, including the European Union, that the November 2024 protests were not peaceful. There is video evidence and recordings of this. They have all this in the European Union, However, despite this, they stubbornly claim that these were peaceful protests.

When someone – whether it’s a representative of the European Union, China, the United States or Australia – claims that black is white, of course, this is unacceptable for us and our society. Therefore, it would be better for them and for EU-Georgia relations if they reconsidered this position: on the one hand, they would agree with us to sit down and legally discuss the law, and on the other hand, they would agree with us on the undeniable fact that those protests were not peaceful,” Nikoloz Samkharadze said.

For information, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union to the UN, Michele Cervone d’Urso, called on the Georgian authorities at the UN Human Rights Council session to “repeal or revise legislation that undermines international human rights standards.”

He said that the European Union is deeply concerned about the politically motivated use of the judicial system and the adoption of repressive measures against civil society organizations in Georgia.
