The detention of Giorgi Baramidze by the regime on false charges of treason is a display of classic Russian cynicism and an attempt to mask its own treacherous policies, - reads a statement of the Coalition for Change.

According to the party, "Ivanishvili's regime—weakened by internal infighting, mutual distrust, and criminal turf wars between 'clans'—is attempting to demonstrate strength."

They further state that "the regime's use of force is doomed to failure."

The arrest of Giorgi Baramidze on false charges of treason—carried out by a regime that has spent years blaming its own homeland for starting the 2008 war, that treats Georgian national hero Giorgi Antsukhelidze as a "PR stunt victim," that places Russian spies in top political posts, and that established a so-called parliamentary commission on treason—is a classic example of Russian-style cynicism and an attempt to mask its own treacherous policies.
