As a result of special immigration control measures, officers of the Migration Department detained 59 foreign nationals.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs released information about the matter.

According to the ministry, it was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country in violation of the requirements set out by Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.

“Officers of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted special immigration control measures across the country.

As a result of the comprehensive operations, 59 foreign nationals who were staying in Georgia illegally were detained. They included citizens of Kenya, Türkiye, Russia, India, Egypt, Ghana, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Sudan, Cameroon, China and Azerbaijan.

As part of the special immigration control measures, department officers inspected specific locations and various types of establishments, with the aim of identifying foreign nationals staying in Georgia without a legal basis.

It was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country in violation of the requirements set out by Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.

The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Center. Relevant procedures are underway to deport them from the country.

It should be noted that since the legislative amendments came into force, officers of the Migration Department have conducted 160 special immigration control operations. As a result, a total of 18,000 foreign nationals have been checked, while 1,000 illegal migrants identified during these operations have already been deported from Georgia,” the statement said.
