“The sole purpose of this dirty political hysteria is to divert attention, on the one hand, from the miserable state into which these traitors to the homeland have plunged the country, and, on the other hand, from what is happening within their own political force, where traitors to the homeland and corrupt figures are engaged in a fight to the death,” Tazo Datunashvili, a member of Lelo - Strong Georgia, said regarding the possible banning of opposition parties.
According to him, “banning political parties will change nothing for Strong Georgia.”
“Banning political parties will change nothing for Strong Georgia. We are people in Strong Georgia who have decided that we will continue fighting in the interests of Georgia, the Georgian people and our state until we bring the country to safety. Therefore, nothing will stop us on this path, including the restrictions imposed on us by these miserable people.
They talk about this while simultaneously trying to boast that they are creating some kind of political competition and that they are the best. In reality, they are gripped by a panic-stricken fear of any form of resistance. Therefore, this is empty talk, talk without substance, exactly like the pathological liars that they are, who do this at every turn,” Datunashvili said.
For reference, in 2025, the ruling Georgian Dream party first petitioned the Constitutional Court to declare several opposition political unions unconstitutional and ban their activities. The lawsuit concerned three parties: Unity - National Movement, Coalition for Change, and Strong Georgia. However, the ruling team later withdrew the original lawsuit and submitted a revised version to the court, adding the Federalists to the list of parties it sought to ban.
