According to the leader of “Droa,” Elene Khoshtaria, the detention of opposition politician Giorgi Baramidze is part of a Russian plan.
As noted in her letter distributed on her Facebook page, the autumn will be very important and therefore, in relation to the ongoing events, “the only most correct, adequate and necessary response is a large anti-occupation rally.”
“A Russian plan! Exactly this is what the list of arrests by ‘Georgian Dream’ is following. Absolutely every person who fought against Russia is being methodically arrested. Irakli Okruashvili, Aleko Elisashvili, now Gia Baramidze as well…
It is undeniable that a list of those people who, according to their wisdom, should be ‘punished’ has been transferred from Russia.
Also, recently Kobakhidze’s rhetoric about so-called Russophobia, the Treaty of Georgievsk, is in absolute synchrony with Partsakhaladze-Romanov. The initiation of a case for cursing Simonyan is a transition to a new stage. They are already speaking to Russia very openly. This, in itself, is a sign that they have to make a final choice.
We, the Georgian society, the opposition, the citizens, must necessarily give a response to Russia in this situation.
This autumn is very important because there is a big crisis in ‘Dream’ and precisely against the background of the growth of this crisis they have thrown many such topics into the opposition that serve to divert attention. Also, at the end of this autumn a decision regarding Georgia will be taken. The issue of Russia-Iran cooperation has intensified. Therefore, our critically important task is to show the West that Georgia, despite everything, continues the protest exactly in accordance with the situation.
Not showing a large protest this autumn will be a sign for everyone that we, the people, are tired. This is unacceptable! Accordingly, the only most correct, adequate and necessary response is a large anti-occupation rally! Possibly in November. This is a matter of agreement, but it is critically important.
We must show that in the defence of the country, in the defence of freedom, we are much stronger than they are in selling the country,” Khoshtaria’s statement says.
