Doctor Maia Kokhtashvili, who was charged with issuing a forged prescription and was granted 50,000 GEL bail by the court, has been released from custody.

Her relatives have shared information about her release on social media.

Kokhtashvili was released after the bail was paid. Citizens raised the bail amount through a campaign launched on social media.

Today, the Telavi District Court imposed 50,000 GEL bail on neurologist Maia Kokhtashvili, who is accused of issuing a forged prescription.

The decision was made by Judge Marine Tsertsvadze. The court also ordered the defendant to report to the relevant authorities once every two weeks and prohibited her from leaving Georgia.

Maia Kokhtashvili was charged under Article 268, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. She is accused of using her official position to illegally prepare and issue a forged prescription to a citizen for the purpose of obtaining a psychotropic substance.

The offense carries a sentence of three to six years’ imprisonment.
