Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has nominated Maia Bitadze for the position of Minister of Culture.

Until now, Maia Bitadze served as a member of the Parliament of Georgia and chaired the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

"I would like to announce that Ms. Maia Bitadze has been appointed today as the Minister of Culture of Georgia. She needs no special introduction to the public. I would like to emphasize that Ms. Maia possesses exceptional management experience. For many years, she has held various high-ranking positions; notably, she served as Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and as Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi—a role in which she oversaw the cultural sector for a period. As you know, since 2020, Ms. Maia Bitadze has been a member of the Parliament of Georgia and Chair of the Parliament's Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee. She holds a Doctorate in Law and is an Associate Professor at Tbilisi State University. She is distinguished by her integrity—the primary criterion upon which we asked Maia to assume the position of Minister of Culture of Georgia. I am confident that Ms. Maia will be a highly successful Minister of Culture. I wish her great success," stated Kobakhidze.

The position of Minister of Culture has been vacant since Tinatin Rukhadze stepped down on July 28. In a statement posted on Facebook, Tinatin Rukhadze cited her health condition as the reason for her decision, stating that her health "does not allow her to devote the proper attention to the work she loves so much and holds dear."
