According to Kakha Kaladze, a modern rehabilitation center will be established in the capital for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy

A modern rehabilitation center for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will be established in the capital, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at a meeting of the Tbilisi Municipal Government.

According to Kaladze, by a decision of Tbilisi City Hall, a 1,650-square-meter plot of land will be allocated in the Gldani district for the construction of a rehabilitation center for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

“Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare muscular disease that causes progressive muscle weakness. Dealing with this disease requires continuous, daily effort from both children and their families. That is why regular medical and rehabilitation care, as well as active participation in public life, is important for them.

The central government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, has made a number of decisions to support them, and Tbilisi City Hall is also actively involved in this process. We have held several meetings with parents of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and discussed their existing needs in detail.

That is why we decided to transfer a 1,657-square-meter plot of land in the Gldani district to an organization and work together to address Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This will be a space where children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will be able to receive comprehensive rehabilitation and educational services, which will significantly contribute to their opportunities for socialization and development,” Kakha Kaladze said.
