Parliament has approved Tamaz Borashvili as the head of the State Security Service. Borashvili received unanimous support, with 83 votes in favor.

According to the legislation, the head of the State Security Service is elected for a six-year term. However, over the past year and a half, the election of the head of the State Security Service has been placed on Parliament’s agenda for the fourth time.

On April 4, 2025, Anri Okhanashvili took office as head of the State Security Service, but he left the position on August 23 of the same year. Okhanashvili was replaced by Mamuka Mdinaradze, whom Parliament approved as head of the State Security Service on September 3, 2025. Mdinaradze resigned on April 21, 2026, and Geka Geladze took over the position. The latter announced his resignation on September 14.
