Individuals convicted of attempting, as part of a group, to seize a strategic and special-importance facility and of participating in group violence, Giorgi Chakhunashvili and Zakro Albutashvili, admitted to the crimes, expressed remorse and applied to the Prosecutor’s Office to conclude plea agreements, the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
The Prosecutor’s Office submitted motions to the Tbilisi Court of Appeals seeking approval of plea agreements with Zakro Albutashvili and Giorgi Chakhunashvili, which the court approved.
“On June 19, 2026, the Tbilisi City Court found Zakro Albutashvili and Giorgi Chakhunashvili, along with five other individuals, guilty of the charges brought against them and sentenced each of them to five years in prison.
Under the plea agreement, Giorgi Chakhunashvili was sentenced to three months in prison and three years of suspended imprisonment. As for Zakro Albutashvili, his sentence was amended to one year in prison and three years of suspended imprisonment.
The Tbilisi Court of Appeals also approved a plea agreement with Nika Gventsadze, who had been convicted of attempting, as part of a group, to seize a strategic and special-importance facility and of participating in group violence, based on a motion submitted by the Prosecutor’s Office.
In its May 7, 2026 ruling, the Tbilisi City Court found Nika Gventsadze, together with other individuals, guilty under Article 19-222(2)(a) and Article 225(2) of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to five years in prison.
Under the plea agreement, the convicted individual was sentenced to one year in prison and three years of suspended imprisonment,” the statement said.
