"I am a victim of physical and psychological torture"—this statement was made in the Court of Appeals by Nana Sander, who was convicted in the October 4 case.

According to the convict, she is being held in a so-called solitary confinement cell where there is a lack of fresh air, causing her to fall ill. Sander states that her rights are being violated and that, in addition to physical torture, she has been subjected to psychological torture. “For months, I was subjected to psychological and physical torture. I was deprived of oxygen—there was simply no air. I even wrote that I wouldn't survive another seven weeks. Everything I am describing can be verified by checking the surveillance camera footage; you can see how long I lay on the floor. I am a victim of physical and psychological torture.

The cell is not ventilated. I spent months in agony, unable to breathe. A doctor would come in, but what could a doctor really do? I had to buy a fan myself; I was losing consciousness.

No fresh air gets in, and the temperature is extremely high. This is deliberate, inhumane torture. Beyond the physical abuse, I was also subjected to psychological torture.

Not a single tormentor from the penitentiary system has been punished, just as none of the police officers who assaulted me have faced consequences. The monitoring service claimed there were no rights violations, yet there clearly were. I have provided testimony, but no agency has taken action. The fact that I call the General Inspection and they fail to respond constitutes a crime. I have logged every single moment and noted exactly whom I spoke to. The time will come when everyone is held accountable.

I have no hope in any court in this country. I say this so that another court—for instance, Strasbourg—might make a decision, and so that others do not have to go through this. Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili [of the City Court] heard about the violence and the violations of my rights, yet her response was to sentence me—an innocent person—to seven years in prison without any evidence," said Sander.

Nana Sander was charged under Article 225, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia in connection with the events that took place near the Atoneli Palace on October 4; this charge involves organizing group violence and carries a penalty of six to nine years of imprisonment. She also faces charges under Article 317 of the Criminal Code, which covers calls for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order and the state government of Georgia, punishable by up to nine years in prison.
