No violations were confirmed in 81 samples following an investigation into cases of norovirus-induced gastroenteritis among children in Tbilisi kindergartens.

The National Food Agency released this information.

"The National Food Agency is continuing its investigation into cases of norovirus-induced gastroenteritis among children in Tbilisi kindergartens. At this stage, laboratory tests regarding food safety indicators have confirmed no violations in the 81 samples analyzed. The results of the analysis of the remaining samples will be released in stages," reads the statement.

It is worth noting that on September 18, children attending public kindergartens were admitted to hospitals showing signs of suspected intoxication. According to the National Center for Disease Control, laboratory results indicate that norovirus was highly likely the cause of the vast majority of gastroenteritis cases in the kindergartens. The Center also noted that this pathogen is the leading cause of viral gastroenteritis worldwide.

It should also be recalled that the Investigative Service had previously launched an investigation into the suspected intoxication of the children in the kindergartens.
