A meeting is underway at the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia between Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze and Gaioz Charkviani, the father of 20-year-old footballer Vakhtang Charkviani, who died of COVID-19.

Gaioz Charkviani also met with representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office yesterday. According to the family’s lawyer, Charkviani was met by a representative of the Prosecutor’s Office at the agency yesterday.

Gaioz Charkviani is demanding that the responsibility of doctors be established in connection with his son’s death. In an effort to have his demand addressed, he also began a hunger strike outside the Prosecutor’s Office several days ago.

For reference, the father of the 20-year-old footballer who died of COVID-19 also made a statement outside the Prosecutor’s Office this morning, saying that he was seeking justice.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia later responded to Charkviani’s statement, explaining that “the investigation into the death of Vakhtang Charkviani began on October 8, 2021, based on a statement by Vakhtang Charkviani’s father, Gaioz Charkviani, and, within the ongoing criminal case, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has brought criminal charges against three individuals.”

Twenty-year-old footballer Vakhtang Charkviani died at the Republican Hospital on September 10, 2021. He had COVID-19. The family holds medical personnel responsible for Charkviani’s death.
