Germany continues to stand firmly and steadfastly by Georgia’s side, supporting its sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders, - reads a statement issued by the German Embassy marking the anniversary of the fall of Sokhumi.
As the Embassy notes, may the memory of this day strengthen us further to work tirelessly for dialogue, sustainable peace, and a European future in which reconciliation becomes possible.
“A day that unites generations. There are dates that are deeply etched in the memory of an entire nation. September 27 is such a day for Georgia.
Even 33 years after the fall of Sokhumi, the pain of the lost homeland, shattered lives, and the loss of loved ones is still felt in many families—including among the generation that had not yet been born at the time. Today, we share the pain and sorrow of the Georgian people. Germany stands firmly and steadfastly by Georgia’s side, supporting its sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. May the memory of this day strengthen our resolve to work tirelessly for dialogue, lasting peace, and a European future in which reconciliation becomes possible,” reads the statement.
