“I will not allow children to kill an innocent person and fathers to make it the norm,” Eka Kupatadze, the mother of deceased teacher Giga Avaliani, said.
She is attending the Tbilisi City Court hearing of Giorgi Malania, who has been detained in connection with her son’s case. Malania is the son of Merab Malania, a former deputy interior minister.
“I will not be questioned as a witness at today’s court hearing; I simply want to state my position. My testimony was deemed undisputed, but it is also undisputed that they are afraid of Eka Kupatadze’s words. Perhaps they are also thinking of killing two birds with one stone, because expedited justice is considered a mitigating circumstance when determining a sentence.
“It seems they are trying to flirt with the justice system, but I will say one thing: the Malanias know very well that Nia Imnadze introduced Malania to Aleksandre Gabashvili only after the attack on Giga Avaliani had been planned. I will not allow children to kill an innocent person and fathers to make it the norm,” Kupatadze said.
For reference, Giorgi Malania is accused of aiding the intentional infliction of serious bodily injury on Giga Avaliani by a group. He has been charged under Article 25 and Article 117, Part 3, Subparagraph “l” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
