Parliament considered the bill under an expedited procedure and approved it at its third and final reading. Once the changes take effect, the GEL 40,000 threshold for property tax will be abolished.
Under the amendments to the tax legislation, a single income threshold of GEL 100,000 will be established. Individuals with an income exceeding GEL 100,000 will pay property tax amounting to not less than 0.8% and not more than 1% of the market value of taxable property (excluding land).
The bill was introduced in Parliament by MPs from the Georgian Dream party. The amendments to the tax legislation will enter into force immediately upon publication.
According to Georgian Dream, the changes concerning property tax will affect approximately 81,000 taxpayers, for whom the amount of tax assessed in 2025 totaled GEL 22.3 million.
