The Tbilisi City Court sentenced a Russian citizen who urinated from a balcony onto people sitting at a café to 15 days of detention and deportation from the country; he was also banned from entering Georgia for three years

The Tbilisi City Court sentenced Russian citizen Alexander Popov, who urinated from a balcony onto people sitting at a café on the grounds of a residential complex, to 15 days of administrative detention and deportation from the country.

Under the court’s decision, he was also banned from entering Georgia for three years.

At the court hearing, Alexander Popov himself said that he admitted to what he had done.

“I promise you that something like this will never happen again,” Popov said.

According to him, he had been visiting a friend and was drunk. He said he wanted to use the bathroom, but it was occupied by his friend’s pregnant wife. Therefore, according to Popov, he “committed the act that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is accusing him of.”

Popov also explained that he owns an apartment in Tbilisi, where he is carrying out renovation work. He asked the court to allow him to finish the renovations and continue living in Georgia.

According to Judge Tornike Kapanadze, admitting and regretting the offense is a mitigating circumstance; however, he said that in a normal society, the explanation Popov presented in court cannot justify such behavior.

“You could have found many other solutions instead of doing what you are accused of. In a normal society, this behavior cannot be explained by that reason!” the judge said.

For reference, Russian citizen Alexander Popov was detained in Tbilisi yesterday. He urinated from a balcony onto people sitting at a café on the grounds of a residential complex in Ortachala. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Russian citizen was detained under Articles 166 and 171 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
