A commotion recently broke out near Rustavi Penitentiary No. 6, where the family members and friends of convicted inmate Giorgi Davitadze are holding a protest.

A verbal altercation occurred between the inmate's supporters and prison staff. Those gathered at the scene state that prison employees are driving quad bikes, creating noise that prevents the protesters from making their voices heard or communicating with the prisoners inside. The demonstrators believe the staff are intentionally causing the noise with the quad bikes.

"Are we not supposed to express our protest? Should we have come here with brooms? Don't you realize you are serving the regime?" the protesters remarked.

For their part, staff members at the penitentiary facility stated that they were not hindering or restricting the protesters and were simply carrying out their duties.

"We are performing our duties conscientiously; calm down," one of the employees told a protester.

The protest by the convict's family members and supporters outside Rustavi’s Penitentiary Facility No. 6 was prompted by a statement the convict, Giorgi Davitadze, made during court proceedings. According to the statement Davitadze made at the Tbilisi Court of Appeals, he accuses guards from Penitentiary Facility No. 6 of rape. He claims the incident took place in the facility's de-escalation room, involved several individuals, and asserts that "everything is visible on the surveillance cameras."

The Special Penitentiary Service also responded to the matter, dismissing the claims as disinformation. The Service maintains that "no violence of any kind—let alone sexual violence—was committed against Davitadze."
