Giorgi Davitadze’s mother: When the other prisoners found out what was happening, they raised a commotion, and as a result, they were all moved to the de-escalation room; Giorgi stated that he would not accept medical treatment—and began a hunger strike—until those prisoners were brought back out of the de-escalation room

Convict Giorgi Davitadze, who swallowed three metal objects in protest, is refusing transfer to a medical facility and has started a hunger strike. The prisoner's mother, Irma Davitadze, reported this information to InterPressNews.
According to his mother, her son declares that he will not move to the medical facility until the prisoners who showed him solidarity are returned to their cells from the de-escalation room. Irma Davitadze stated that after her son accused prison guards of certain actions, other prisoners expressed their support for him; consequently, the prison administration transferred them to the de-escalation room.
"They were unable to obtain Giorgi's consent for his transfer to a hospital. In an act of protest, Giorgi swallowed three metal objects. I believe this is dangerous. His lawyer is currently on the way to the prison to see him; I hope his condition does not deteriorate.
As for the reason behind Giorgi's protest: the entire prison population stood in solidarity with him, protesting what they had learned about the situation inside the prisons. Consequently, the prisoners involved were moved to the de-escalation room. This is precisely what Giorgi is protesting. He declared that he would refuse medical care until the prisoners were brought out of the de-escalation room and returned to their cells, and he has initiated a hunger strike in connection with this," stated Irma Davitadze.
According to Irma Davitadze, the information regarding the transfer of prisoners to the de-escalation room—an act of solidarity that triggered her son's protest—was reported from the prison by a representative of the Public Defender.
“What the prisoners learned is nothing new to them; Giorgi was simply the one who dared to say it out loud. He spoke up precisely because this affects every prisoner and he resolved to save them all—an act requiring great courage and bravery, as not everyone is capable of voicing such things publicly," stated Irma Davitadze.
She noted that, at this stage, she does not know the current state of her son's health. According to Irma Davitadze, a representative of the Public Defender reported last night that convict Giorgi Davitadze’s health was satisfactory, but "no one knows" how the situation might develop thereafter.
Giorgi Davitadze accuses a guard from Penitentiary Facility No. 6 of rape. He claims the incident took place in the de-escalation room, involved several individuals, and asserts that "everything is visible on the cameras."
The Special Penitentiary Service also responded to the matter, dismissing the claim as disinformation. The Service maintains that "no violence of any kind—let alone sexual violence—was committed against Davitadze."
