Officers of the State Security Service have arrested a Georgian citizen for the illegal handling of nuclear material. The Service released information regarding the incident.

According to the agency, the detainee planned to sell the nuclear material in his possession—Uranium-238—to a foreign national for $700,000 USD.

"Officers from the Counter-Intelligence and Special Operations Departments of the State Security Service of Georgia, acting jointly, arrested a Georgian citizen for the illegal handling of nuclear material—specifically, the radioactive substance uranium.

The investigation established that the detainee planned to sell the nuclear material in his possession—Uranium-238—to a foreign national for $700,000 USD." "The investigation is being conducted under Article 230 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for a penalty of up to 10 years of imprisonment," reads the statement.
