Friedrich Naumann Foundation informs InterPressNews of projects for which it had applied to Georgian government to secure grant funding

In a letter sent to InterPressNews, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation discusses the details of the projects for which it had applied to the Georgian government to secure a grant.
The Foundation states that its activities were not limited to work on any single political issue or specific type of activity.
It explains that the application submitted to the Georgian government included a detailed program of planned activities covering a range of areas in which the Naumann Foundation has traditionally been active in Georgia.
“We are happy to provide some general clarification regarding the application submitted to the Georgian authorities.
The application included a detailed programme of planned activities covering a range of areas in which the Foundation had traditionally been active in Georgia. These included civic and democratic education, rule of law and human rights, youth and leadership development, economic and entrepreneurial education, technology and innovation, cultural activities, research and public discussion, as well as regional cooperation.
The programme included different formats such as educational programmes, expert discussions, conferences, publications, research activities and cultural and media-related projects. The activities were described in terms of their main objectives and planned implementation periods.
The projects were at different stages of development. Most were planned activities for the relevant programme period, while some built on established formats or ongoing work. One project, for example, had already been initiated before the application, while other activities were still at the planning or development stage.
More generally, the programme reflected the Foundation’s longstanding educational, civic and professional work in Georgia. This also included supporting Georgia’s European integration process and contributing to dialogue and cooperation between Georgia and Germany. The Foundation’s work was not limited to any single political issue or type of activity”, reads the statement.
For information, four German foundations - the Konrad Adenauer, Friedrich Naumann, Heinrich Böll, and Friedrich Ebert foundations - have suspended their operations and closed their offices in Georgia.
