Helmut Brandstätter: Every bloody regime collapses, every political prisoner will be set free, and those who served Russia instead of the Georgian people will have to pay a high price

Georgian Dream has become a nightmare for the Georgian people. Georgia's oligarch is banning opposition parties - something we previously saw in Belarus, - Austrian MEP Helmut Brandstätter stated during the European Parliament debate on Georgia.

"Two dictators, two regimes loyal to Putin, and people held hostage. Both regimes imprison political opponents; both carry out Moscow's orders, and both are destroying their nations' futures. Like Putin, they fear freedom and freedom of speech. And now, just like Putin and Lukashenko, they are expelling European foundations—such as the Konrad Adenauer and Friedrich Naumann foundations. These organizations have contributed to Georgia's success over the past decades," the MEP noted.

According to the MEP, the Georgian people are distinct from the government and are constantly fighting for freedom and a European future.

"It is ironic, but some of them actually worked and studied in these very organizations; in other words, they learned about democracy only to destroy it later. Colleagues, the people of Georgia are completely different from this regime. Like us, they are Europeans to the core and are constantly fighting for freedom and a European future. That is why I remain optimistic—because every bloody regime eventually collapses. All political prisoners, including Elene Khoshtaria, will be free. As for those who served Russia instead of the Georgian people, they will have to pay a heavy price for it," the MEP noted.
