Tengiz Sharmanashvili: We have low expectations for the meeting chaired by Kaja Kallas - she holds Black Sea conferences with countries that have no access to the Black Sea but does not invite Georgia

“We do not have high expectations for the meeting chaired by Kaja Kallas, although we still hope that pragmatism will prevail and a rational decision will be made,” Georgian Dream MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili said regarding the EU foreign ministers’ meeting, where the situation in Georgia will be discussed alongside other issues.
According to Sharmanashvili, since Kallas is chairing the meeting in Luxembourg, she will likely “set the tone” for the discussion.
“You know that EU High Representative Kaja Kallas is chairing this meeting in Luxembourg. She will probably set the tone for the discussion. We know her attitude — she refuses to acknowledge any reality whatsoever. She even holds Black Sea conferences with countries that have no access to the Black Sea and does not invite Georgia. She is a rather peculiar person, judging by her geographical knowledge. So, we do not have particularly high expectations. Nevertheless, we hope that pragmatism will prevail and that, as the advantages and disadvantages of these steps are weighed, a rational decision will be made. We will see. In any case, we do not have high expectations for a meeting chaired by Kaja Kallas,” Sharmanashvili said.
He also commented on a statement by Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, who said that “the Georgian people want to be part of Europe, but unfortunately, the government has not taken the appropriate steps.” Sharmanashvili claimed that representatives of the Baltic states follow instructions like “obedient slaves.”
“Do not even get me started on the Baltic states. They have been instructed: ‘Do whatever you want, but you must discredit us anyway.’ They have received these instructions and follow them like obedient slaves. These countries are not sovereign states with their own views that deserve to be taken into account. At every turn, whether it is a member of the European Parliament from the Baltic states, a minister, or another politician, they all repeat the same narrative because they cannot express their own opinions or formulate their own policies. They do whatever they are told. This is very unfortunate, and that is why, as we have said, we maintain a one-sided friendship with these countries and pay absolutely no attention to them, because we do not expect anything rational or fair from them,” Sharmanashvili said.
EU foreign ministers are meeting in Luxembourg today to discuss the situation in Georgia, among other issues.
