Levan Machavariani: Since the importance of the "Middle Corridor" has increased manifold, the EU cannot afford to wait long, and they will have to engage with us

"Despite so much injustice, we are ready to turn the page and begin a genuine partnership; since the importance of the 'Middle Corridor' has increased manifold, the EU cannot afford to wait long, and they will have to engage with us," Levan Machavariani, an MP from Georgian Dream, stated while speaking with journalists about expectations regarding the EU enlargement report.

According to him, Brussels believes "that through additional blackmail and media noise, they can give the opposition a chance to replace the government—through revolution or elections—but this is out of the question."

"We do not have positive expectations. We all remember last year well: when each candidate country was assessed based on six criteria, Ukraine and Moldova were evaluated on only four—there was clear bias involved. They excluded corruption and human rights from the assessment, and it is likely that a similar pattern will continue. We have heard the general assessments; there are individual countries that clearly understand—given our geopolitical location—that a friendship with Georgia is vital for them, and they are trying to convince Brussels of this as well. Brussels understands this too, yet they believe that through additional tactics—such as blackmail and media-driven noise—they can still offer a 'last chance' to their proxy opposition to replace us, through revolution or elections. This is out of the question; the Georgian people are the guarantors against it. I have stated many times—and we have made this clear at every level—that despite all this injustice, we are ready to turn the page and embark on a genuine partnership.

I have stated that, given the manifold increase in the importance of the 'Middle Corridor,' the European Union cannot afford to wait much longer; they will have to sit down and begin engaging with us," Machavariani said.
