The Opposition Alliance has announced the launch of a protest campaign on October 25, which will culminate in a large-scale rally on November 28.
According to Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, "No matter how many parties Ivanishvili may ban, the objective of the democratic opposition remains unchanged: to expand peaceful and principled resistance until the regime relinquishes what it has usurped—free and fair elections."
"The Opposition Alliance is issuing a statement regarding the annulment of political parties. However, this issue is not about us being stripped of our official positions—we voluntarily renounced them because the authorities have usurped the elections and the country itself. We have no intention of participating in this. But what is happening today is not a matter of us being deprived of our positions. This amounts to stripping the country of democracy; it means depriving our great ancestors and our grand Georgian history of our ultimate dream—full-fledged membership in the European family. It means denying our children the best education and our elderly the best healthcare. It means taking away decent pensions from our retirees, while those in power instead award themselves the highest salaries. It means depriving households of affordable food prices—and this is no joke. It means the emptying of our regions and cities, stripping Georgians of the right to live in their ancestral homes and forcing them to leave the country. It means denying emigrants the right to vote. It means depriving farmers of their largest export market, leaving them solely dependent on the Russian market—a market that was shut to Georgian farmers just the other day, simply because someone decided it should be, or because it served someone’s interests. For you, the journalists, it means the loss of free speech and the imposition of an index of forbidden words. It means denying the brilliant minds of civil society—great patriots all—the right to serve their homeland. Practically all of them were barred from participating in politics, and these generations were completely removed from political life. What took place on October 25 and 26, 2024, was not merely about us losing our positions; it was the seizure of the country by Georgian Dream—all to ensure the continuation of corruption, the plundering of the public, and their own amassing of vast wealth. What did we gain from this? Nothing but negatives.
That is why we will be present everywhere—in the courtrooms of Batumi and, most importantly, on the streets of Tbilisi. We will protest fearlessly and resolutely, driven by a primary demand: a Georgia without Ivanishvili. We must reclaim Europe, justice, and prosperity, and ensure that Georgians have the opportunity to live happy lives in their own homeland. For this reason, we are announcing the launch of a major campaign. We look forward to seeing everyone on October 25 at 7:00 PM, in front of the First Building of Tbilisi State University.
"This is a day that belongs to all of us; it is being taken away from everyone—our homeland is being taken away from us all," stated Nika Gvaramia.
Furthermore, according to the Opposition Alliance, they will gather near the first building of TSU (Tbilisi State University) on October 25 to launch a joint campaign, with the goal of organizing a major rally in Tbilisi on November 28.
