Bidzina has tried to finish us off many times. First, he thought he could do it with the "Russian Law," but he failed. Then, he thought he could succeed by stealing the elections, but he failed. Next, he thought he could finish us off through overt violence and the use of chemical weapons, but he failed. Then, he thought he could succeed through arrests, but he failed. All these attempts failed because of our resistance; therefore, we must resist him now, and he is guaranteed to fail again. Moreover, it is likely he won't even have another opportunity, — writes Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the Droa movement, in a letter sent from prison regarding the potential banning of political parties.
As Khoshtaria notes in her message, Droa, together with the rest of the opposition, will participate in the Constitutional Court hearings regarding the lawsuit concerning the banning of political parties.
“The latest decision by Georgian Dream amounts to: A state coup carried out by an illegitimate minority. Our state has often faced challenges regarding democracy, but never before has it been enshrined—effectively—that the majority of the country must live according to the whims of a single man or a single party. This decision signals that the Georgia we established on April 9th will cease to exist; in such states, people are miserable, and they are not even permitted to speak of it openly.
This decision is—emphatically and demonstratively—anti-European, anti-Western, and anti-civilizational, both in form and in substance. Naturally, they have timed this process to coincide with ongoing discussions in Europe. Indeed, the very content of the legal claim—and the judicial proceedings in general—frame Europe as an enemy. This is unfolding against a backdrop of vitriol directed at Europe, accompanied by the complete dismantling of European norms. It does not merely disregard the West; it actively seeks confrontation with it—a stance that is fundamentally contrary to the interests of our state”, she said.
According to her, the Droa party, as part of the coalition, is among those slated for a ban.
“We have been contacted as well. Naturally, Droa will participate—alongside the coalition and the entire opposition—in the sessions aimed at dismantling Georgian Dream," writes Elene Khoshtaria.
