Prime Minister: Someone has to decide who is right; we consider that these parties are unconstitutional based on their past, present and plans - I think the issue should be resolved simply in court

We consider that they are unconstitutional based on their statements, their actions, their past, their present and their future plans. Accordingly, I think this issue should be resolved simply in the Constitutional Court. They know that by their essence they are unconstitutional and at such a time, of course, you are completely stripped of arguments and they also have no hope in their own arguments in the Constitutional Court, – this was stated by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze regarding the ban on parties, the consideration of the related complaint of which is being started by the Constitutional Court.

The Prime Minister also responded to the statement of one of the leaders of “Lelo – Strong Georgia”, Grigol Gegelia, that “today they addressed international friends for help”. As Kobakhidze noted, it would be better for them to focus on informing the Constitutional Court rather than “their patrons abroad”.

“In their place I would focus on informing the Constitutional Court. They must defend themselves before the Constitutional Court and before that complaint which has been submitted to the court. They must prepare arguments, yet proceeding from the fact that they have no arguments and have no hope in their own arguments in the Constitutional Court, they address not the Constitutional Court, but address their own patrons abroad, which once again shows their true face. In this complaint a very simple issue is raised – you know that these political parties do not recognize the legitimacy of the existing constitutional order. Someone has to decide who is right. It turns out that either they are right, theoretically, or whoever says this is coarsely opposing Georgia’s constitutional order. This is the issue that the Constitutional Court will decide. In this situation that we see, either one must be unconstitutional, or the other. We consider that it is precisely they who are unconstitutional, based on their statements, their actions, their past, their present and their future plans; accordingly, I think this issue should be resolved simply in the Constitutional Court; we are submitting a very clearly formulated complaint to the Constitutional Court.

They know that by their essence they are unconstitutional and they speak about this openly. Throughout all these years they spoke about their own unconstitutionality, confirmed their unconstitutionality with every action and statement. At such a time, of course, you are completely stripped of arguments and accordingly they have no hope in their own arguments in the Constitutional Court. Throughout all these years they coarsely and insolently opposed Georgia’s constitutional order; accordingly, now they have to appear before the Constitutional Court without arguments,” – stated Kobakhidze.

As for the fact that part of the opposition parties are announcing street protests in parallel with the constitutional complaint, the Prime Minister noted that these forces have no chance anywhere and accordingly they announce now one action, now another.

“These forces have no chance anywhere – neither in elections, nor in parliament, nor in the street, nor in the Constitutional Court. Proceeding from this, they are in complete uncertainty and announce now one thing, now another; yet every time, whatever they announced, they failed, which has one simple reason – these political forces do not have the support of the Georgian people and second – they are not right either before the law, or before the Constitution, or before the people, the state, their own country. Under such conditions it is impossible to achieve any success. Throughout this entire period they looked to their patrons abroad, yet you see that they cannot help them either. Accordingly, they are in despair and at such a time they make successive statements about new plans. All these plans, in the final analysis, we see, are doomed to complete failure,” – stated Kobakhidze.
