Everything that so many countries worked for after the Second World War to establish an international order was crossed out by this one statement of the EU Representation, which abolished our statehood, declared us a primitive tribal system; they will probably also appoint an exarch who is to govern Georgia – this shame must be washed away by the European Union as soon as possible, – this is how Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili responded to the statement of the EU Representation in Georgia, according to which the European Union is no longer funding the Georgian authorities, but continues to support the population of Georgia and for this purpose is allocating funding of 38 million euros.

In Papuashvili’s assessment, this evaluation by the European Union is shameful even in comparison with Russia’s policy toward Georgia.

“I saw the statement of the EU Representation that they will allocate funding of 38 million euros and not to the state, but to the people, they will help them directly. I want everyone to seriously realize what the EU Representation told us today, when it wants to have direct relations with the people and not with the state. By this the EU Representation in fact told us that it is abolishing Georgia’s statehood and declaring us a primitive tribal system, when there is no state, there is no representation, and they would contact someone directly. This is a shameful position, which is shameful even in comparison with Russia’s policy toward Georgia in the sense that it abolishes Georgia’s statehood and in fact declares that in the eyes of the European Union Georgia is a primitive tribal system and the EU representative should have relations with various tribes. It is a shame when the foreign policy of the European Union has sunk to these medieval values and discarded everything that implies respect for the sovereignty of another country, respect for the state, non-interference in internal affairs and, in general, everything that so many countries worked for after the Second World War to establish an international order; everything was crossed out by this one statement of the EU Representation, which abolished our statehood, declared us a primitive tribal system; they will probably also appoint an exarch who is to govern Georgia and take decisions. It is a shame and this shame must be washed away by the European Union as soon as possible,” – stated Papuashvili.
