Dito Chubinidze, a journalist for Asaval-Dasavali who was arrested on charges of sabotage, does not admit guilt, his lawyer Nona Pilauri told InterPressNews.
The charges were officially brought against the journalist yesterday at the temporary detention facility.
"He has been charged under the article concerning treason and sabotage. Naturally, we do not accept these charges; Dito Chubinidze categorically denies any guilt. He was acting in his capacity as a journalist, gathering information for his reporting. That is his position—he is ready to fight," says Pilauri.
When asked what Dito Chubinidze attributes his arrest to—specifically, whether he links it to his mention in a letter by former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili—the lawyer responded in the negative. "This question occurred to me as well, so I asked him about it—he is aware of the materials published by Irakli Gharibashvili. I asked whether he knew him personally or had ever been in contact with him; he replied that he did not know him at all—he only recognized him as a former politician—and that he had never even spoken to him on the phone. Incidentally, he was somewhat surprised; he himself did not see a connection between this arrest and Gharibashvili. However, the question arose among the public—myself included—so it was logical for me to ask it," stated Pilauri.
For context, the General Prosecutor's Office has arrested Domenti (Dito) Chubinidze, a journalist for the publication *Asaval-Dasavali*, on charges of high treason—specifically, sabotage. According to the agency, "Since February 2026, Dito Chubinidze has been systematically disseminating false information and disinformation through various media outlets and social platforms."
