According to Justice Minister Paata Salia, no decision has yet been made regarding the dismissal of the director of Rustavi Penitentiary Establishment No. 6, though the matter is being discussed.

Paata Salia stated that a decision has not yet been reached concerning the dismissal of Shota Trapaidze, the director of Rustavi Penitentiary Establishment No. 6.

Speaking to TV Pirveli, Salia noted that the issue is currently being discussed.

"At this stage, we are still deliberating on this matter, and a decision will be made," Salia stated.

He also addressed the appointment of the new Director of the Penitentiary Service, Ramaz Tatarashvili. According to Salia, Tatarashvili was appointed to the position based on his recommendation, though he also consulted with the Minister of Internal Affairs regarding the appointment.

“We had to select a new head of the prisons in a fairly short time, however, I know this person personally, I know about his professionalism and I made the decision to appoint him as the head.

It was my recommendation, it was my acquaintance, but of course, I also discussed it with my colleagues, with whom he worked until now, and with the Minister of Internal Affairs,” Salia said.

When asked about the claims made by the protesters against him and accusations of persecution, Salia answered as follows:

“These circumstances have not been confirmed within the framework of any investigation, therefore, decisions are not made in the state system solely on the basis of accusations that are made in the media and that may have a political basis,” Salia said.

For your information, the family of convicted Giorgi Davitadze is making accusations against Shota Trapaidze, the director of Rustavi Penitentiary No. 6, and is demanding his dismissal. For his part, Davitadze accuses the guards of the 6th facility of physical and sexual violence.
