Parliament fast-tracked and adopted amendments allowing the functions of the Prime Minister’s Special Representative to be assigned to a minister’s first deputy or another deputy minister

Parliament fast-tracked amendments to the Law on the Structure, Powers and Rules of Operation of the Government of Georgia, allowing the functions of the Prime Minister’s Special Representative to be assigned to a minister’s first deputy or another deputy minister.
The bill also allows a minister’s first deputy or another deputy minister to concurrently exercise the powers of the head of a legal entity under public law (LEPL) or a subordinate agency operating within the respective ministry’s sphere of governance.
According to the government, assigning these additional functions will not entail any extra remuneration and will be carried out without additional pay.
For context, last week, First Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Zurabashvili was appointed the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia.
