Allegedly, Dimitri Khachiashvili ended up standing trial for assaulting a man who expressed his desire to have sex with him.
The adventure of Dimitri Khachiashvili, who managed to escape from the Gurjaani Courthouse, went viral on the internet. Some likened this incident to “Arsena’s poem,” where the protagonist drinks with soldiers keeping him captive and then escapes.
However, in this particular case, the convict escaped a courthouse guarded by completely sober police officers. This incident has enjoyed wide publicity in the region; some consider it funny, while others say that it is saddening rather than humorous.
Gurjaani Regional Court has appealed to locals to hold back from discrediting the court and released the following information:
“On February 2, 2015, Mito Khinashvili, a Gurjaani’s Regional Court Judge reviewed the case of accused Dimitri Khachiashvili. Finally, the judge rendered a verdict and sentenced the defendant to imprisonment. After the trial, the inmate was taken to a holding cell, surrounded by police officials. However, Dimitri Khachiashvili managed to escape. “
As unofficial information has it, the convict managed to escape from custody twice - his first attempt ended with failure and he was soon caught, but his second attempt proved successful. He managed to lose the pursuing police and vanish.
Since both the prisoner’s lawyer and the representatives of Gurjaani’s Court refused to provide us with further details regarding the incident, we contacted a local journalist Tea Shaishmelashvili, who readily answered our questions.

- What charge was the accused facing?
- Allegedly, the inpidual inflicted knife wounds to a man who offered to have sex with him. This incident took place at a restaurant in Gurjaani. Dimitri Khachiashvili is from Batumi and he lives there with his spouse.
Residents of the village Velistsikhe have described Dimitri as a good person.

As the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports, the convict has already been declared wanted and he will be detained soon. Allegedly, one of the police officials helped him and if this is proven, he will be punished along with Dimitri, who has recently been dubbed an “elusive fellow” by the locals.
