Vazagashvili's murder: actions and mistakes of the ill-fated bomber

"If my son actually commited this crime, I never want to see him again”

On February 8, the Prosecutor’s Office released information that a suspect who allegedly murdered Yuri Vazagashvili was apprehended. Reportedly, the murder suspect Gia Sosanashvili serves at the Tsalka Police Station and is an acting MIA official.

As Deputy Chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze informs, at Zurab Vazagashvili’s grave, where late Vazagashvili was killed, the investigators found some fragments of a grenade that contained the suspect’s DNA.

Investigators have questioned dozens of witnesses and utilized all possible measures to see the investigation through. Finally, they met with success. Investigators apprehended murder suspect Gia Sosanashvili, who allegedly visited the village of Karapila (Kaspi region) on January 19-20. The careless culprit reportedly left his DNA at the crime scene.

Thus, now we can say for certain that Yuri Vazagashvili was killed when a grenade planted by Gia Sosanashvili was triggered,”- claims Mr. Shotadze.

Kviris Palitra was the first publication to release information claiming that Yuri Vazagashvili was killed by a grenade placed under one of the tiles on his son’s grave.

Shotadze also explained the mistake the accused had made while planting the bomb.

“The perpetrator used insulating tape when he planted the bomb, thus leaving his DNA on it. This was his fatal mistake and I cannot hide the fact that in this particular case fate has simply smiled upon us and we managed to solve the case,”- stated Shotadze.

Manana Vazagashvili, Yuri Vazagashvili’s sister: “We did not even expect that the case would be solved so soon. As far as we know, the officer in question served in the criminal police department in 2005-2006. Allegedly, the murder suspect hails from the region of Kaspi; however, my sister-in-law and I never saw him here. Although, we do know that this man got his orders from the same thugs that killed Zura.”

At this point, the suspect denies the accusation; however, the investigation is still in progress and he could name those who contracted him for this terrible task at any moment.

As they claim in the Prosecutor’s Office, Yuri Vazagashvili was killed by the murderers of Zurab Vazagashvili. Eleven former police officials, including former head of the criminal police department Irakli Pirtskhalava, were declared prime suspects in Zurab Vazagashvili’s case and are currently behind bars.

New details are expected to emerge in Vazagashvili’s case in the short run.

As you know, a horrible tragedy rocked the village of Karapila on January 20, when a father was killed in an explosion at his son’s grave. As witnesses claim, on January 18-19, Sosanashvili was visiting his parents in the neighboring village of Sakorintlo.

Allegedly, on the 19th of January, he called former deputy head of the criminal police pision, Irakli Pirtskalava, who is now in custody facing felony charges. Reportedly, Mr. Pirtskalava was also involved in Yuri Vazagashvili’s murder.

Pirtskalava is said to have returned Sosanashvili’s call on January 20. However, as late Vazagashvili’s sister Manana Vazagashvili says, she does not know whether his brother knew the alleged murderer.

As locals claim, there is no other inhabited location between the villages of Krapila and Sakorintlo and it only takes 10 minutes to travel from one village to the other. Allegedly, Gia Sosanashvili visited his parents approximately twice a month. As Darejan Sosanashvili states, her son’s last visit was on January 19, a day prior to Vazagashvili’s murder,”- concludes the author of the article.

Gia’s father, Akaki Sosanashvili: “If my son is declared guilty, I never want to see him again!”

Gia Sosanashvili’s neighbor Mzia Gvinadze: “Gia is not close to our family; he is from the village of Sakorintlo and as far as we are concerned, he has not been on bad terms with anybody. The recent reports have literally shocked me; I could never have imagined that Gia was capable of committing such a stomach-churning crime. He was a bit eccentric, that much is true, but he has never been a bad guy. “

Tsiala Vaszagashvili, Yuri Vazagashvili’s spouse: “I am clueless about whether Yuri knew Sosanashvili; however, the murderer apparently knew him and followed his every step. I am sure the names of the thugs who ordered him to dispose of Yuri will soon surface; as for the murderer himself, we cannot even call him a man; he is just a non-entity that will follow any order for the sake of money.
