Irish Senator : In the not-too-distant future we will see Georgia's territorial integrity

In the not-too-distant future we will see Georgia's territorial integrity, "said Irish Senator Diarmuid Wilson.

According to the Senator, he is concerned over installation of barbed wires and split of families in Georgia. Senator recalled the visit to Georgia during his speech.

"We saw the situation on the "border" with our own eyes. It was harrowing to see the families, divided by the barbed wires. I want to thank everyone who supports them. The merits of the EU Monitoring Mission, including the Irish Monitors, who monitor the situation in the daily routine, should be emphasized. I hope that the resolution adopted by the Senate will make its contribution and one day, in the not-too-distant future, we will see the united territories and people of Georgia, "the senator said.

On November 7, the Senate of Ireland adopted a resolution reaffirming Ireland’s unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. The resolution expresses concern that 10 years after the Russia-Georgia war the occupation of Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia by the Russian Federation still continues and the security, human rights and humanitarian situation on the ground further deteriorates, people in the occupied territories are deprived of basic rights and freedoms, like the right to life, the right to residence and property, freedom of movement, education in the native language; and further, that Georgians remaining in the occupied regions are subject to ethnic discrimination and ethnically targeted violence.

The resolution emphasizes the necessity of full implementation of the EU mediated Ceasefire Agreement by Russia, of 12 August, 2008.
