Ukrainian MP claims detained citizens of Ukraine have no ties with protest rally in Tbilisi

Semion Semenchenko, member of the Ukrainian Rada, has commented on the detention of the citizens of Ukraine in Tbilisi. He said a lot of rumors have been spread regarding this issue.

“Poroshenko’s adviser Biryukov is particularly active in this regard. It is reported that the detainees were going to attend the opposition rally. These citizens of Ukraine do not have any ties with the protest rally organized by the opposition and they did not attend it,” the lawmaker wrote on his Facebook page.

Semion Semenchenko denies that the citizens of Ukraine were detained when they were purchasing some firearms.

“They were detained when they were at the hotel and according to lawyers,” Semenchenko wrote.

The MP said that he is now in Tbilisi and after the procedural actions are launched it will be clear how events will develop.

Yuri Biryukov, adviser of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, wrote on his Facebook page that a member of the “Samopomoshchi” party, MP Semion Semenchenko, was visiting Tbilisi together with the citizens of Ukraine, who were detained in a special operation, but he managed to escape.

Police detained 7 citizens of Ukraine on Likhauri Street in Tbilisi on Sunday morning. An investigation is in progress under article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to purchase and possession of firearms, ammunition and explosive devices.
