Criminal charges filed against fromer Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti governor Levan Shonia

The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service have filed criminal charges against fromer governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Levan Shonia.

According to the State Security Service, the investigation found that in May 2018, at the request of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Governor Levan Shonia, citizen Z.K. transferred USD 10 000 to G.A. which was later transferred to Levan Shonia. This fact has been confirmed by a number of evidences in the case: the testimonies of witnesses, bank statements, information requested from Z.K.'s phone, letters of the Public Service Bureau and the Service Agency of the Ministry of Finance.

Investigation is being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service into the reception of a prohibited gift under Article 340 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
