Eka Gigauri: NGO sector is trying to identify who are behind these trolls

The emergence of so-called trolls is a new development in the recent months and all signs indicate that this is ordered by the government, - Eka Gigauri, Director General of Transparency International Georgia, told journalsits.

She commented on fake materials posted on Facebook aimed at discrediting NGOs and their leaderships.

According to Gigauri, such organized discredit campaign was first used in the pre-election period and representatives of NGOs were attacked and called "fascists".

"This wave was suspended for a while, but it has now been resumed, after we criticized the attempts to strengthen the Murusudze-Chinchaladze clan in the Supreme Court. The dynamics shows that the offensive campaigns strengthen when we criticize important topics and create discomfort for the government.

It's just ridiculous to attempt to connect us with the former president, whom we used to criticize even more for virtually abolishing the judiciary system in Georgia. You can see this criticism in our statements and reports. This government has in recent years been busy with backing the judges who were influential during the former government and they are irritated by our truth. In response, they use dirty forms of discredit, which will eventually harm them and not us. This has been reflected in many international reports. The problem is that this damages the country's reputation and ratings, and we are not happy with it”, Gigauri said.

According to her, the NGO sector is trying to establish who are behind this “black campaign”.

“We are trying to establish the people behind this “black campaign” and the source of money”, she said.
