The occupation regime is using the so-called checkpoints in order increase pressure and better monitor how many Ossetian people tries to cross the occupational line and enter the controlled territory, - Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, said when commenting on the events developing in the village of Khurvaleti.
According to Tsikhelashvili, the actions of the occupation regime are directed against the interests of citizens.
"This policy - construction of such artificial barricades along the occupation lines have lasted for years. If you ask me if this is any military facility, I will say no, of course, it is not. Construction of all this – the so-called checkpoints, barbed wire sections in the locals’ property - is a daily battle launched by the occupational regime against people”, Tsikhelashvili said.
According to her, Sputnik says more than 40 people have been arrested this year and naturally, 90% of them are trying to reach the controlled territory for their vital needs. “It is impossible to imagine more cynicism than this," she added.
As for the response, according to Tsikhelashvili, the relevant structures of Georgia had a meeting with the EU Monitoring Mission yesterday, which, unfortunately, can only patrol on the territory controlled by Georgia.
“Of course, the co-chairs, including the EU Special Representative, who is now in Georgia, have been informed. We had and will have meetings. The Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meeting is scheduled to be held in Ergneti tomorrow," - Ketevan Tsikhelashvili said.
