Georgian, Azerbaijani sides to discuss disputed border section in Davit Gareji Monastery Complex area

Georgian and Azerbaijani sides will today hold another meeting in Baku to discuss the disputed section in Davit Gareji Monastery Complex area. The Georgia side of the commission is led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Lasha Darsalia.

The commission, consisting of 20 members, was approved by Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze on May 10.

The state commission on the issue of demarcation of the Georgian-Azerbaijani border has been working since 1996. About 30% of the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan has not been agreed. The area, where Georgia’s important cultural and religious heritage sites Davit Gareji monastic caves are located, has been one of the major disputed part in border demarcation talks between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
