Economy Minister : We already think that we can restore regular flights in certain directions, with strict adherence to guidelines

We already think that we can restore regular flights in certain directions, with strict adherence to guidelines, but it depends on the desire of the countries we are negotiating with and the situation in these countries, said Minister of Economy Natia Turnava.

According to her, the international organizations have already started working on the establishment of safe flight principles and Georgia will be one of the first countries to take these principles into account.

"Air traffic is a bilateral and multilateral process. Therefore, in order to restore it, unfortunately, the efforts of the Georgian government alone are not enough. No matter how successful we are in the fight against the epidemic, the same positive trends must be observed in the partner countries, in the world, because we had one of the most open skies before the epidemic and we had direct flights with 50 countries, up to 50 destinations.

You know that our liberal sky policy is an integral part of our economic policy, we are very proud of that. In 2019, low-budget companies have significantly increased the frequency of flights in Georgia. It is unfortunate that today in the conditions of the pandemic this has been temporarily delayed, but there are positive predictions, this is directly related to the revival of the world tourism industry, too. International organizations are working to establish safe flight principles, and we will be one of the first countries to take this into account and support it in a bilateral manner. We already think that we can restore regular flights in certain directions, with strict adherence to guidelines, but it depends on the desire of the countries we are negotiating with and the situation in these countries,” Minister Turnava said.
