The parliament has approved the draft amendments to the Constitution in the third reading, according to which, the 2020 parliamentary elections will be held with the proportion of 120/30, meaning that the next parliament will be composed of 120 MPs elected under proportional system and 30 MPs elected under majoritarian system.

117 deputies supported the draft constitutional law and 3 went against it.

115 MPs supported and 3 voted against the draft constitutional law on the amendments to the electoral system in the second reading on June 23. As for the first reading, it was held on June 21, during which, 136 lawmakers supported the bill.

According to the amendments, the 2020 parliamentary elections will be held under a mixed electoral system (120 proportional, 30 majoritarian) and with 1% threshold.

The amendments provide for the so-called 40% locking mechanism as well. In particular, the party, which will receive less than 40.54% support under the proportional system, will not be able to form an independent government.
