According to the World Health Organization, up to 260 000 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed globally in the last 24 hours - a new daily record.
The majority of new cases were revealed in the US, Brazil, India and South Africa.
The day before, the WHO reported 237 743 new cases of coronavirus which was also a record daily number since the start of the pandemic. In addition, the WHO states that 7 360 more people have died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours - also a record after May 10.
According to the Worldometers, the global number of coronavirus cases amounts to 14.4 million, from which more than 600 000 patients died. The number of active cases stands at 5.2 million.
