EU expresses concern over military exercises in occupied territories of Georgia

Such military exercises on the territory of a sovereign state, without the consent of that state, violate the norms and principles of international law as reflected in the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act and the Paris Charter, reads the statement issued by the EU delegation to the OSCE relating to the large-scale military exercises ongoing in the occupied territories of Abkzhai and the Tskhinvali region - Caucasus 2020".

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the EU reaffirms its strong support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and calls on Russia to fulfill its international obligations, including the EU-brokered ceasefire agreement signed on 12 August 2008.

Today, at the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum, delegations from member states condemned the Russian military exercise Caucasus 2020. Statements in support of Georgia were also made by delegations from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
