The commission set up by the President has selected two candidates for the vacant position of CEC Chairperson, - Giorgi Kalandarishvili and Giorgi Santuriani, who are current CEC employees.
In addition, the commission also selected 5 candidates for the vacant positions of CEC members.
As Nikoloz Simonishvili, chairman of the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association, told Interpressews, representatives of the non-governmental sector did not support any of the candidates for the charimanship.
"The commission made a decision to nominate two candidates for the vacant position of the CEC chairman - Giorgi Kalandarishvili and Giorgi Santuriani. As for the professional members, the candidates selected by the commission are: Ana Mikeladze, Tamara Sartania, Lela Taliuri, Maia Zaridze and Gia Tsatsashvili.
Now the president has to submit 4 candidates for two vacant positions to the parliament within 3 days. Then the parliament should consider it within a week and resolve this issue. The president has the right to nominate at least 2 people to parliament for each vacancy.
Out of the candidates for the chairmanship nominated by the Commission, the President will either nominate both of them to Parliament or refuse to nominate them. As for the members, out of 5 nominated candidates, the president can nominate a maximum of 4 to the parliament", - Simonishvili said.
For reference, Giorgi Kalandarishvili holds the position of the Head of the Human Resources Department at the Central Election Commission, while Giorgi Santuriani is the Head of the Legal Department.
