Levan Ioseliani: We have prepared a joint letter to the EU leaders - opposition is ready to reaffirm its support for Georgia to receive candidate status

"We and our colleagues are ready to reaffirm the support of the opposition for Georgia to receive candidate status - therefore, we have prepared a joint letter to the EU leaders," said Levan Ioseliani, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, at the plenary session.

According to him, the opposition is united regarding the European future of the country. As Ioseliani noted, work on the text continues and the opposition will confirm the unity of Georgia regarding the European future by signing the document.

"I heard that there are people in the opposition who do not want Georgia to receive candidate status - such accusations have been made. This is personally offensive to me and I wonder who these people are. Their names and surnames should be mentioned. Therefore, we have prepared a joint letter to the EU leaders, in which my colleagues are ready to reaffirm our support on the part of the opposition, for Georgia to receive candidate status, that it is our responsibility, and that it is our choice without alternative, so that there are no questions as to whether there is a political group in the opposition, an MP for whom this status is not important, or thre is something more important than this challenge today. Therefore, we are going to continue to work on this text on which a final agreement will probably be reached soon. This text will also be handed over to the media and we will sign this text.

I want everyone to know that no matter how different our opinion is from the ruling party, there are issues that, for me as a citizen, as an oppositionist, are above all, and this is the European future of our country.

My colleagues and I are united in this spirit and we will definitely confirm the unity by signing this document," Levan Ioseliani said at the plenary session of the parliament.
