Shalva Papuashvili: The EU should demonstrate its long-term interest towards the region by granting a candidate status to Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine

“It is indeed a moment of truth for the EU, and credibility and legitimacy of its international actorness,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili tweeted, responding to David McAllister, Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, who said that “at a time when the security of the whole region is at stake, granting candidate status is an important political signal.”

“It is indeed a moment of truth for the EU, and credibility and legitimacy of its international actorness. Being at this strategic juncture, the Union should demonstrate its long-term interest towards the region by granting a candidate status to Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine,” Shalva Papuashvili tweeted.

The Speaker of Parliament shared a tweet from David McAllister: “EP Foreign Affairs Committee will discuss its assessment on the application of Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia to join the EU with EU Commission. EPP Group believes that at a time when the security of the whole region is at stake, granting candidate status is an important political signal.”
