Irakli Kobakhidze on Kelly Degnan's statement: It's unfortunate when you accuse the MP of lies - Kavelashvili was elected by the people and the answer of this form and content was sad and disappointing for me

When you are told that there is an attack on MEPs and at the same time the Ambassador insults an elected member of the Parliament of Georgia, it is, to put it mildly, disappointing and insulting to the Parliament and the state. It's sad when you accuse a member of the Parliament of Georgia of lying, Misha Kavelashvili is a parliamentarian elected by the people, our colleague, and the answer of this form and content, was very sad and disappointing for me, chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze said in connection with US Ambassador's response to Georgian Dream departee Mikheil Kavelashvili.

According to Kobakhidze, "Misha Kavelashvili, who is an independent deputy and an exceptionally decent man, has the right to ask questions."

"We cannot enter the discussion whether the form is right or wrong, when there is an independent MP, he has the right. Here I have to focus on the answer, this is also somewhat awkward for me because I still have to enter into public controversy, but Misha Kavelashvili, if we leave aside the fact that he was a member of the Georgian Dream team for years, is a parliamentarian elected by the people, our colleague and the answer of this form and content, was very sad and disappointing for me, I can tell you directly. When you accuse a deputy, a member of the Parliament of Georgia, of lying, it is very unfortunate.

When we criticize with arguments Fotyga, Kubilius, Gahler, etc., sometimes they say really unheard of things and we have to criticize them, same goes to resolution, it was really an unheard of resolution and we naturally had to criticize it, all this happens with arguments. We argue with Gahler, when you say that a patriot should leave the country, it is nonsense, it is the simplest truth. Criticism does not go beyond the scope of ethics, we do not say that Gahler is telling lies. We did not choose this form and content, we respond to criticism with reasoned criticism, we also respond to insults with reasoned criticism.

When they tell us that this is an attack on MEPs, I don't know if they are saints or what, but you can use criticism against everyone. This is part of the democratic process, and at such a time, when on the one hand you are told that this is an attack on MEPs, and at the same time the Ambassador insults an elected member of the Parliament of Georgia, this is, to put it mildly, disappointing and insulting to the Parliament and the state, and I, as a member of the Parliament, am obliged here to state my position based on collegiality and the interests of the state institution. As for the form, generally, it's really insulting when something like this happens. Regarding the content, when we are talking about lies, I will repeat once again, I cannot go into details here, but when we are talking about a certain accusation against the elected parliamentarian, arguments should also be given there, right? When it comes to let's say I don't remember the details now, Misha Kavelashvili quotes Eka Gigauri and then says that maybe you could distance from this, as I remember this was the content of the letter. I mean, what is the lie in this? Eka Gigauri's quote was misquoted, or is it a lie to raise a question about distancing, or what is it? The same applies to Lomjaria, that Lomjaria says that it is better to burn the country than to swallow shame, and what was swallowing the shame? That we did not join the sanctions? I can't go into this content myself, but the fact is that she gave an insulting answer to our colleague, parliamentarian, member of Parliament, Misha Kavelashvili, I will emphasize this separately, that he is really an exceptionally decent, honorable and honest man and loves his country, which is very important, this man does doesn't deserve such an insult anyway, and the violation of diplomatic standards is really something that requires a reaction from all parliamentarians, and the content is certainly important too," said Irakli Kobakhidze on POSTV.
