Salome Zurabishvili: The MEPs’ visit is taking place at a very important moment for us, there have been few such historic moments for us, this visit may turn out to be decisive for our European future

According to President Salome Zurabishvili, Georgia should start working to fulfill the 12 points proposed by the European Commission.

She thanked MEPs for their visit to Georgia and noted at the briefing that there will be no retreat from the country's European perspective.

"The visit is taking place at a very important moment for us. There have been few such historic moments for us. This visit may turn out to be decisive for our European future. At this time, listening to MEPs and conveying our messages to them are extremely important. It should also be said that the MEPs have arrived today as part of a regional visit. This also emphasizes the geopolitical importance of this region in today's world.

We need to understand, and perhaps this is the main thing for this country, that the European perspective given to us by the European Parliament and also by the European Council is extremely important. Sometimes we forget this and do not see that this is a step from which there can be no retreat. This requires us to be worthy of this European perspective. On the other hand, it may be even more important if we are granted candidate status by the end of the year after fulfilling the main recommendations, which we call the 12 points. Working on them should start in Brussels, where I expect representatives of the Government to go to clarify some details with the Commission," said Salome Zurabishvili.
