Georgia's citizenship was granted to only 728 people whose country of origin is Georgia, the Public Service Development Agency thus responded to the information spread earlier today by IDFI.
According to the information disseminated by the agency, all 728 persons meet the requirements established by law regarding the level of knowledge of the state language of Georgia, the history of Georgia and the basic foundations of law.
"In order for the President to grant Georgian citizenship in an exceptional manner, it is necessary that the person be of Georgian origin and meet other requirements stipulated by the law. In particular, the applicant for citizenship must be a person living in the occupied territory of Georgia or forcibly displaced from this territory, as well as a person who emigrated at different times due to political opinion or socio-economic situation, who is currently a citizen of another country and wants to restore ties with his/her homeland.
In 2022, applications of 3,265 citizens of Russia were submitted to the agency for receiving citizenship in an exceptional manner. Of these, Georgian citizenship was granted by the President of Georgia to only 728 people whose country of origin is Georgia and meet the requirements established by law regarding the level of knowledge of the state language of Georgia, the history of Georgia and the basic foundations of law," reads the statement.
