According to Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of Georgian Dream, the organizers of the ongoing "Glory to Ukraine" conference in Tbilisi are directly politically affiliated with those political groups, which are called radical opposition.
As Kobakhidze stated told PalitraNews TV, the government "could not give even a little legitimacy" to the radical forces by participating in the mentioned conference.
"This is not the first time that this event is held in Tbilisi, there were several times when we took part in the conference, including myself twice. If I am not mistaken, we did not participate last year. We did participat in two of them because I personally participated, I was a panelist. Then there was one event, if I'm not mistaken, the third one, where the political bias was so visible, after that we decided not to attend the next conference. It was not only bias, the event that was held then was completely one-sided. There is a simple reason for this, the organizers of this conference are directly politically affiliated with the political groups that we call the radical opposition, which is actually the radical opposition. Of course, participation in the conference organized by them is not acceptable for us. The fact that there is a political bias is evident, even from the composition. If you look at who they invite, even from the European Parliament, even which lobbyists of the Georgian political force are invited, who is the composition... Shalva Papuashvili made a very good statement regarding radicalism. That is, radical political forces are invited there, and not only political forces, the so-called non-governmental organizations or similar entities that are directly involved in the radical agenda. From our side, presenting radicalism as a norm and participating in it is absolutely unacceptable. We cannot present radicalism as a norm, especially when the first paragraph of the European Commission document tells us that depolarization should be the main task. Once you give the radical forces even a little legitimacy, of course, it will contribute to further polarization. By participating in this conference, we would have done it and we didn't," said Kobakhidze.
According to him, the majority of speakers in the conference are selected for political reasons. As Irakli Kobakhidze explained, the invitation to participate in the discussion was addressed to the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili and the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Archil Talakvadze.
"It is precisely those people who have been selected as speakers who implement this radical agenda in Georgia or promote it from outside. As for the invitation, if I'm not mistaken, only two of our representatives were invited to participate in the discussion, they were the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili and the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Archil Talakvadze. Only two people were invited when there are many speakers. This also shows the basis for the formation of this list and agenda," said Kobakhidze.
According to him, specific politicians have a certain political interest. In this context, Irakli Kobakhidze mentioned the former US Ambassador to Georgia, Ian Kelly, and the Director of Global Policy of the George Bush Institute, David Kramer.
"We often use conditional terms, in this case the word "lobbyist" is largely conditional, and I would say more, in fact they are not the lobbyists of National Movement, but I think on the contrary, National Movement is their lobbyist. Here we are not dealing with misleading or anything, in fact there are certain political interests that are carried by specific politicians. These are MEPs, that is, for example, Ian Kelly, David Kramer, etc. Who is the lobbyist for whom, let the society judge that," said Kobakhidze.
According to him, when you link with the National Movement, it means that you are interested in disrupting the country, getting involved in war, etc.
